Should I bother with organic food?

Organic food is more expensive than other food in the supermarket and when feeling the financial pinch already, it can be so tempting to cut that cost… but is it worth it?

What are the benefits of organic food?
Put simply, the farming methods work with nature, so these include:
– No genetically modified ingredients
– Fewer pesticides, uring crop rotation and beneficial insects instead, which is better for nature
– Minimal antibiotics
– No artificial colours or preservatives
– Free range
– More space leading to happier animals
– Improved soil quality by increasing levels of organic matter in the soil and its ability to store carbon
… and many more!

The Dirty Dozen
You may have heard of the “
Dirty dozen”, the fruit and vegetables that contain the highest levels of pesticides and are often advised as the most important to buy organic: apples, blueberries, cherries, grapes, green beans, kale, nectarines, peaches, pears, peppers, strawberries and spinach.

When I first saw this list, I thought that this list didn’t cover the key fruit and veg I eat on a regular basis, so why worry – surely a little wouldn’t do any harm!?

However, I realised one day (when my digestion was quite sensitive) that if I ate a non-organic tomato, my mouth would feel sore and I would get cuts all over it. I stopped eating tomatoes altogether, then one day had an organic tomato and realised it didn’t have the same effect. To this day, I will only eat organic tomatoes where possible.

Similarly with coffee… If I drank coffee that wasn’t organic, I would feel nauseous afterwards.. Now, I only drink organic coffee where possible, and don’t get that awful feeling in the stomach – it’s just a really lovely drink.

My top seven tasty organic fruit and veg
So, if you’re not convinced yet – try my top 7 tasty organic fruit and veg – do a taste test, see if you notice a difference in flavour between the two, and see if your stomach feels any different after eating them:

– Blueberries
– Carrots
– Coffee
– Figs
– Raspberries
– Strawberries
– Tomatoes

The non-organic ones can look perfect, big, juicy, shiny but I haven’t once had one that tastes better than, or as good as, the organic version… In my book, taste alone is a good enough reason to switch… If you like the taste, it’s more enjoyable to eat, and you’re more likely to eat more of what’s good for you. If you notice as much of a difference between the two as I did where you can’t eat one but you can eat the other, it’s very easy to realise the difference it can be making to your whole gut.

After changing my diet, I noticed my immune system was stronger too.

It’s better for the soil, the planet, local farmers, and for you, so if you haven’t made the switch yet, do the taste test and let me know what you think!

What’s this got to do with homeopathy?
Homeopathy is about working with nature to improve our health, so it’s very similar really – and if your gut is reacting in this way to foods, you would probably benefit from some homeopathic treatment to strengthen your gut.
