Homeopathic Treatment for Insomnia

Insomnia is one of the most common health issues in adults, up to 66% of adults experience it. It can either involve struggling to fall asleep or struggling to stay asleep. In some cases, it also impacts daily activity, adding memory loss and irritability to the fatigue. It can increase hyperactivity and aggressiveness too, especially in children.

Causes:
According to the Sleep Foundation (2024), there are many factors which contribute to insomnia including stress, medications, and lifestyle; as well as life events such as grief, divorce, stress or a major illness.

Factors:
Insomnia can occur alongside mental health struggles, including depression and anxiety. Other risk factors which increase the risk of insomnia include female hormones (natural or synthetic), older age, diabetes and chronic pain, restless leg syndrome and sleep apnea.

Natural treatment for insomnia:
Some people benefit from homeopathy, melatonin, yoga, hypnosis and aromatherapy, alongside healthy sleep habits to improve their sleep patterns.

Homeopathic remedies for insomnia:
The following remedies are some of the homeopathic options available to manage insomnia naturally. They do not cause drowsiness:

  • Arsen Alb: A very effective remedy for anxious people who are typically thin, cold, tidy and organised.
  • Belladonna: These people typically have a fever which is contributing to the insomnia. Very effective for toddlers and children who are struggling to sleep when teething and may sense their heartbeat in their ears.
  • Chamomilla: Very helpful when people are irrationally angry with their discomfort. This is very effective for teething babies and children, and their struggling, exhausted parents.
  • Cocculus: This sleeplessness is likely to be the result of jetlag, a change in sleep patterns due to work shifts or caring for loved ones at night.
  • Ignatia: This sleeplessness is generally triggered by inconsolable grief, where the patient goes from crying to laughing and back again.
  • Nat Mur: Also often triggered by grief, but in this case they are emotionally closed, bitter and don’t want to discuss their grief.
  • Nux vomica: Usually applies to hard-working, overstretched, irritable people. They are always thinking about what they have to do. They tend to wake at 4am and often also suffer from backache.
  • Passiflora: Anxiety-induced sleeplessness.

Testimonial: Frank, West Berkshire:
“I had a very pleasing first consultation with Ali in which she was attentive and sympathetic. My sleeping issue has improved immeasurably following the prescribing of some gentle-acting tablets. Very pleased.”
